Empath (n): a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual.
Often told they are “too sensitive” and need to “toughen up.”
Judith Orloff, MD, psychiatrist and author of The Empath’s Survival Guide describes the important difference between displaying empathy and being an actual empath, as “But being an empath means you can actually feel their happiness or anxiety in your own body,” whereas “Being empathetic is when your heart goes out to somebody when they feel joy or sadness.”
Do you have this personality type?
1. You absorb the emotions of someone else when they are in your presence. You feel you can connect to someone of a very deep level, and empaths go beyond just feeling sympathy, they experience the emotions too, sometimes even deeper than the other person.
2.You can be easy to manipulate. Because of your openness and ability to understand any situation, people can take advantage of you.
3.You have a unique intuitive ability. You can easily gain a sense of someone’s past, present and future experiences and how they emotionally feel about these. You have a unique awareness of an individual’s thoughts and feelings.
4.Empaths are drawn to fields of healing – medical, activism, even expressive arts.
5.Empaths are highly observant. They often have an ability to quickly read body language and eye movements to decipher people’s actions.
6.Empaths can feel lost in they are not helping someone or something.
7.Empaths have an amazing B.S detector.
8.Empaths feel the need to “recharge” their batteries after particular social situations. They can appear anti-social, or moody, but it is rather just them feeling overwhelmed by all the emotion in the room.
